The media.

What can we say about the media that hasn't already been said?

We've been lucky enough to have been on both sides of the press - the outside and the inside, and have enjoyed every bit of it. Writing is fun, reading is fun, and hey - who doesn't like being quoted?

On this page, you'll find press releases we've put out, articles that included us, and articles we've had a hand in.

September 2005: A small paper did a small article on Kidsnet (then known as MYInet), and gave us a small mention. We probably wouldn't have even known about it if not for the magic of Google. (The original is at ECM Post Review.)

"A Teen Technology Center and Study Lounge are being developed at the Family Pathways building in Mora. The lab will include five “mod” computers that are being built by 10 students under the direction of Josh Carlson from CMC Tech.

"These computers are probably not like you have at your office or in your home. The kids are designing cases with colors and designs and open sides with multi-colored fans.

"The lab will also have five refurbished computers for a total of 10 systems, all connected to the Internet as well as to the new Mora Youth Intranet system. Future plans include the addition of music mixing, graphic arts and robotics.

"The adjacent Teen Study Lounge will offer snacks and areas for doing homework or visiting with friends.

"The teen center project is a collaborative effort among Family Pathways, Lone Pine Community Center, DREAM Girls, CMC Tech, and Kanabec Systems.

"The kids are looking for black computer monitors to use with their “mod” computers. If there are any businesses or individuals in the area in the process of changing monitors and have black ones to donate, the Teen Technology Center in Mora would be happy to have them."

February 2006: The Kanabec County Times writes a small section on our Vasa Streaming Video system, which can be seen at http://vasa.kanabecsystems.com/ (still true to our old site design).

"This year, Vasaloppet organizers unveiled an unprecedented addition to the finish line: a Web cam.

"However, because of short notice and a lack of focused advertising, the numbers weren't quite what Keith Thelen, owner of Kanabec Systems, had hoped for, he said.

"Thelen said that for long-term users, he counted only 40-50, although he may have missed others who were signed on for a short period of time.

"One positive, Thelen said, was that a few users were actually logging on from places as far as the United Kingdom and Finland.

"With this year in the bag, there's always next year.

"'We haven't really talked about it yet,' Thelen said, 'but I'm guessing we'll be trying to do it bigger and better next year.'"
